At the Mount, she offers courses in Curricular Planning, Methods of Teaching and Teaching with Technology and serves as counselor to Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education. In her native Russia, she was professor of education at Volgograd State Pedagogical University, where she also served as Dean of the School of Foreign Languages. During her 25-year Russian career, Dr. Smirnvoa was known for her work in innovative approaches to teaching. Dr. Smirnova was a Montessori trainer, and has run seminars and training programs for Montessori teachers in Russia and the U.S. She played a key role in creating a model Ecological Gymnasium and other experimental “charter schools". Teaching 2.0 approaches demand the right pedagogy, an open mind and a commitment to new learning. The author, who chairs the college’s Academic Technology Advancement Committee, was an advanced Web CT user. She had learned in her own teaching to overcome the LMS’ limitations by employing other multimedia tools, including WiZiQ, Tapped In, Google groups, Blogger, and Gtalk. The last 3 sessions have left me confused about my role in these Friday night meetings until I joined Nelba, to learn Spanish. Now, I understand what inspires me in SL. I am interested in learning. I am not interested in small talk unless I gain some learning from the conversation. I apologize for not being able to make up a story of my own to explain how I feel, so instead I will let Brian Sturm tell the story about "Truth and Story":<br /><br />Truth, naked and cold, had been turned away from every door in the village. Her nakedness frightened the people. When Parable found her she was huddled in a corner, shivering and hungry. Taking pity on her, Parable gathered her up and took her home. There, she dressed Truth in story, warmed her and sent her out again. Clothed in story, Truth knocked again at the doors and was readily welcomed into the villagers' houses. They invited her to eat at their tables and warm herself by their fires. <br /><br />-- Jewish Teaching Story<br /><br />Watch the video and listen to Brian Sturm tell the story of the Naked Truth and explain the value of storytelling.<br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UFC-URW6wkU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UFC-URW6wkU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <br /><br />I would like to teach English to speakers of other languages, professional and personal development, and how to collaborate using Wikieducator via storytelling.Educational Leadershiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16943252444390921174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1876216741992310724.post-63670571441196402162008-12-05T02:40:00.001-08:002008-12-05T04:54:24.489-08:00Live Online Session on Storytelling December 5, 2008 at 6PM EST at WiZiQ<p><a href="http://connecting-online.ning.com"><img src="http://api.ning.com/files/V570dt5cHo549fcw3GpdpEfh6kKKa2jNwtnppWuWRIm6ABXfMS1f2UVVGfiJXMl15ZNRcmm5ar3hYFhNzRoNyAhVCoxnnfRR/CO09Presentation1.gif" alt="" width="400" height="100" /></a><a href="http://connecting-online.ning.com"></a></p><br />Join the <a href="http://www.wikieducator.org/Storytelling/course_mini_conference/">storytelling course on Wikieducator</a><br /><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="400" height="407" id="player"><param name="movie" value="http://authorlive.com/aliveext/EmbedauthorLIVE/authorlive.swf"/><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><param name="allowNetworking" value="always"/><param name="FlashVars" value="sessionkey=58CDAD1F32E24BECB6AA31F4136E9598" /> <embed src="http://authorlive.com/aliveext/EmbedauthorLIVE/authorlive.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" FlashVars="sessionkey=58CDAD1F32E24BECB6AA31F4136E9598" allowscriptaccess="always" allowNetworking="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="400" height="407"> </embed></object>Educational Leadershiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16943252444390921174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1876216741992310724.post-51549083230690171582008-11-17T10:33:00.000-08:002008-11-17T10:34:21.382-08:00Learning in India<p><a href="http://connecting-online.ning.com"><img src="http://api.ning.com/files/V570dt5cHo549fcw3GpdpEfh6kKKa2jNwtnppWuWRIm6ABXfMS1f2UVVGfiJXMl15ZNRcmm5ar3hYFhNzRoNyAhVCoxnnfRR/CO09Presentation1.gif" alt="" width="400" height="100" /></a><a href="http://connecting-online.ning.com"></a></p><br />Join the <a href="http://www.wikieducator.org/Storytelling/course_mini_conference/">storytelling course on Wikieducator</a><br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/AiOcmw6Qsww&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AiOcmw6Qsww&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>Educational Leadershiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16943252444390921174noreply@blogger.com0
